Arjan has over 25 years’ experience in the financial markets in a variety of positions at banks and a rating agency. As Managing Director, he most recently managed the securitisation and covered bond structuring team within the Financial Institutions Solutions business at BNP Paribas for a period of seven years. Before that he was a Director in the asset securitisation group at Barclays Capital for a period of three years.

In both roles he was responsible for arranging funding programmes for mortgage lenders in a variety of jurisdictions including the UK, Netherlands, Australia, US, Canada and France. Under his leadership at BNP Paribas as well as Barclays Capital the teams were the number one covered bond arrangers in the market and awarded the Covered Bond Structuring House of the Year award on numerous occasions. Arjan was a member of the FSA standing group establishing the UK covered bond legislation in 2003.

Before joining Barclays Capital in 2003, Arjan was a Vice President/Senior Credit Officer at Moody’s Investor Services, leading the team of analysts assigning ratings to securitisation and covered bond programs. At Moody’s he was heavily involved in designing the UK mortgage risk models at the inception of the securitisation market. At Moody’s he looked at transactions in the EMEA, including South Africa, where he initiated the establishment of a local office. Through his career, Arjan has gained an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the mortgage and consumer finance markets as well as the associated funding structures.

Arjan is a Dutch national and obtained a master’s degree in econometrics from Tilburg University in The Netherlands. He came to the UK in 1993, and after a one-year management accountant position at UNISYS joined the Royal Bank of Canada’s management trainee programme.

Hamish has 20 years’ experience in the financial markets having worked for leading banks and law firms.

As Chief Capital Officer, Hamish will manage all aspects of the liability side of the Perenna balance sheet including covered bond and junior note programmes as well as common equity tier 1 issuance.

Prior to Perenna, he worked in the debt capital markets group at Credit Suisse in London where he was responsible for the origination and structuring of debt products, particularly RMBS and covered bonds, across Europe. Hamish previously worked in the securitisation and covered bond structuring group of BNP Paribas in in London where he was responsible for the structuring of RMBS and covered bond programmes for banking clients located primarily in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. The group won the Covered Bond Structuring House of the Year award on several occasions during that time.

Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he worked for international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in both the London and Paris offices specialising in asset-backed funding including RMBS and residential mortgage covered bonds.

After graduating, Hamish worked in the banking and finance group of Russell McVeagh, one of New Zealand’s top tier law firms, acting for banks and corporates in relation to their global debt capital markets programmes as well as in relation to bilateral and syndicated bank lending and the conduit funding of a range of asset portfolios.

Hamish holds degrees in law and economics from Canterbury University in New Zealand. He is a New Zealand and Irish citizen.

Colin Bell

Colin has 25 years’ experience in Financial Services, holding senior executive positions in IFA and broking businesses (John Charcol & Purely Mortgages) and
specialist lenders (OneSavings Bank, InterBay & HTB).

At Perenna, Colin holds the position of COO. In lending, Colin set up and ran as CEO, InterBay Funding Ltd before selling the business initially to Cabot Square Capital and then to JC Flowers. InterBay was owned by US firm Bayview LLC, a whole
loan trading and servicing entity in Miami which also owned InterBay US & Canada. Colin then continued to run InterBay as part of OneSavings Bank post sale, latterly moving into a group role is his last year controlling sales and products for Kent Reliance, InterBay and Prestige.

Colin is a British citizen and holds a BA with honours in Economics from Newcastle/Northumbria, graduating in 1991.

Werner de Leeuw

Werner is a CIMA qualified accountant who has 20+ years’ experience in the banking industry, managing Finance functions and leading large Treasury, Finance and Risk transformation projects in investment and retail banks.

As Chief Financial Officer, he has overall responsibility for the design, development, and implementation of the Financial Control function, including Financial reporting, planning & analysis. He is also responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Finance function.

Prior to Perenna, Werner was responsible for implementing and managing financial control and product control functions at a number of banks. At Lloyds Banking Group, he was head of Financial Control and Product Control for the Group Corporate
Treasury function. Following a treasury transformation, in which he was responsible for treasury and finance operating models, risk management system migrations and market risk re-hedging; Werner designed, implemented and embedded a new
financial control framework on a new ledger (balance
sheet of $100bn), before handing back to BAU.

At Depfa Bank plc, Werner worked as Head of Financial Control London Branch, where he set-up and managed a new finance and product control function. Following the financial crisis, Werner moved to a group role where he oversaw the successful transfer of 80% of the group’s assets ($200bn) and associated derivatives to a newly created state bank. At UBS, Werner designed, implemented and managed the product control function for the Cash and Collateral trading desk in Zurich, where all the cash interest rate risk of the UBS group was managed ($1 trillion in assets).

Werner has a degree in Commerce from Stellenbosch University in South Africa, holds the ACMA and CGMA professional designations, and is a UK and South African citizen.

Louise is Perenna’s Chief Risk Officer. Louise is a commercial and strategically astute financial services and risk management specialist, with 25 years of professional experience across all financial and insurance disciplines, within practice and corporate settings.

As a leading and innovative practitioner in risk management, Louise has assisted many organisations in their development, implementation and embedding of their own unique risk cultures.

As a member of the leadership teams of FTSE 100 companies, Louise has contributed to many commercial activities including mergers and acquisitions, where she specialises in the analyses of strategic and operational risks of target organisations; market flotations and corporate restructuring.

Dan Pass

Dan is Perenna’s Chief Technology Officer. Dan has over 20 years’ experience delivering and supporting technology across a diverse variety of verticals including telecoms, gaming, platform service providers, and financial services. Dan has worked in organisations sized from PE and VC backed startups, SMEs, to FTSE 100 companies.

For the last four years prior to joining Perenna, Dan worked as CTO for OPLO (formally 1st Stop Finance Group). OPLO is a prime and near prime SME lender in the consumer credit space offering 2nd charge mortgages, HP motor finance, and unsecured personal loans. Dan led a team that built a smart origination platform that reduced decision times from 60 seconds to under 5 seconds. This platform was combined with a data layer that gave instant visibility of key business metric data that influenced a number of automated business processes.

Prior to that, Dan was chief architect and technical director at Betfred and the Tote – household names in the UK gaming/gambling space. Dan’s team supported an £8bn per annum revenue business with high volume real-time scalable systems.

Prior to that, Dan has held a number of key engineering and leadership roles at Cable & Wireless Hosting, Tiscali, Pipex, and Caudwell. He started his career as an engineer at pioneering VC backed optical network startup Polatis in Cambridge.

Dan is a British citizen who has studied key technical disciplines including TOGAF, Zachman, Microsoft, and AWS.

Kate Lindsay-Bayley

Head of Legal & Compliance

Kate is Perenna’s Head of Legal & Compliance. She is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and specialises in investment funds and structured finance.

Kate has over 25 years’ experience working for a number of banks and financial institutions in a variety of capacities including legal, trust and compliance. Her main areas of experience cover the legal and compliance requirements of a wide range of products including investment funds, note issuance platforms
and convertible bonds.

Prior to joining Perenna, she worked for Axiom Legal working as in-house counsel in the asset management division of UBS AG advising on structuring investment funds across Europe. Before that she provided legal and compliance services to Credit Suisse International for their custom markets platform, an in-house platform offering European funds and note issuance programme services to investment banking clients. Kate was responsible for setting up the compliance function for the platform and providing legal advice to the platform team and controlling all transactional
documentation. Kate has also been a Vice President at Deutsche Bank in the compliance and regulation team advising on Exchange Traded Funds and infrastructure funds.

Before joining Axiom Legal she spent 6 years as General Counsel and Compliance Officer at Ferox Capital Management LLP, a convertible bond investment manager with a portfolio of investment funds. Whilst there she was appointed as a director of SALAR PLC, an Irish UCITS fund which she oversaw the setup of, and was responsible for, the compliance function and developing the controls for retail investors required as result of the creation of the UCITS fund. She was also the Money Laundering Reporting Officer.

Kate is a UK citizen and holds a Bachelor of law degree from the London School of Economics. She qualified at NGJ (now part of K&L Gates) and spent over 4 years at Denton Wilde Sapte in their tax department.

Aniq Ahmed

Head of Regulatory Affairs

Aniq is Perenna’s Head of Regulatory Affairs. Aniq has nearly 10 years’ experience in financial services acting in a generalist role supporting executives across risk, finance, governance, and business. In this time, Aniq has developed an acute understanding of bank operations and change.

Aniq is a UK citizen and holds a BSc in Financial Economics with Econometrics from the University of Kent and an MSc in Economic History from the London School of Economics. Aniq is a member of the Chartered Banker Institute and holds a certificate in Bank Strategy, Operations and Technology

Simon Thompson

Simon Thompson

Head of Operations

Simon is Perenna’s Head of Operations. Simon has over 30 years’ experience in banking, leading large, multi-disciplinary operational teams as well as specialist credit underwriting functions. He has a passion for creating operational and service excellence and has worked in retail, commercial and corporate banking environments.

Prior to joining Perenna, Simon spent three years as Head of Operations at Virgin Money managing mortgage acquisition, underwriting and in-life servicing across sites in Newcastle, Glasgow, and Leeds. During this time, he led several key transformation initiatives, reducing failure demand, introducing automation, and improving key customer satisfaction metrics.

Prior to this role, Simon was Virgin Money’s Chief Underwriter for six years, managing the underwriting of higher risk Residential, self-employed, Interest Only and complex Buy to Let applications. Simon rebuilt the Underwriting capability in Virgin Money after its acquisition of Northern Rock, designing and implementing new Mandate and Quality Frameworks.

Previously, Simon has held corporate banking relationship roles with Bank of Scotland and Barclays.

Simon holds an MBA, Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies, and a Law Degree, all attained at Northumbria University.
